I have no connections to any of these companies, and I do not ever intend to become a professional chess program author. I think anyone would be crazy to try to make a living selling chess software at $10.00. There is simply no way that such a model can succeed (in a financially viable way). But if someone wanted to do that I certainly have no objections. Also, we already get fine, free programs from various sources. Perhaps some authors would like to go "semi-pro" to partly defray the costs of development. A $10 per pop model might fit that category. I just think it is totally unrealistic to offer products without support or to expect to make money at rock-bottom prices. In such a case I guess that they would be happier giving the stuff away instead of trying to make money. But I will be pleasantly surprised if I am proven wrong. IMO-YMMV.
