The Trends series was pretty good in its day, but there's nothing in those books
that you can't find in a good-sized game database. The Trends series was simply
a booklet of 100 recent games in a particular opening, divided by variation,
with a few very light notes at the start of each section. The games themselves
were unannotated.

For the price of a handful of Trends books, you could purchase a million+ game
CD and the reader program of your choice (Fritz, Essentia, etc.) and dig up
these games yourself in just a few minutes.

For a basic discussion of the Advance Caro-Kann, try a general opening book
(Fine's "Ideas Behind the Chess Openings", Kallai's "Basic Chess Openings",
Schiller's "Standard Chess OPenings" et al.). For a more in-depth treatment,
check "Play the Caro-Kann" by Varnusz, "Complete Defense to King Pawn Openings"
by Schiller, among other books on the Caro-Kann, and supplement these with games
from a good database.
