The correspondence chess community does not always take into account the WCCC results because engine to engine games are not very important for them. What is more important for CC players is good deep analysis, training and commenting facilities that is why they choose mostly CB Shredder or Fritz. Since CC players are likely the most customers for chess products apart from OTB titled players, it's this chess group that makes ultimate profits for chess software developers. From my own CC experience I can say that most of my opponents have been using Fritz or Deep Fritz as a chess engine which is the most CC-friendly product. Thus, Shredder 9 and Fritz 8 (now, supposedly, Fritz 9) are still going to be the best choices for CC players. As to Fruit, I suppose Fabien will either have to cooperate with CB or try to develop his own GUI which will take longer time, so we will not see new Fruit WCCC commercial for long. And I don't believe him to be completely uniterested in commercial benefits to release his Fruit just for nothing. I'm going to tell you more. I don't believe Couzzi's cooperation with Diepeeven will benefit. As far as I know, Vincent has been trying to promote his Diep D3 for quite a while, without much success, though. Developing a 2D GUI is not a one day's matter, so he'll either work on that for 1-2 months more or release Zappa 3D which will not make the customers happy, you know. And we won't see Zappa 2.0 soon, not untile the end of year. Sounds very pessimistic, though, but it seems a likely case. Therefore, Chessbase will still reign with their Fritz 9 and later on with Hiarcs 10 or Shredder 10 making the bulk of the chess software market profits. Alex
