.xdefaults is a hidden file by default. Well, debian based linux systems are
more difficult as others for the most users. The homedir skeleton is very small
and such files are not created by default. If you're come directly from Windows
without any experience of linux its definely wrong for you. May you should use
RedHat or SuSE. Otherwise just create the file .Xresources as Andreas wrote with
his data as example. .Xresources works on the same way as .xdefaults. It's the
older default file for x-windows, but will be supported too.
