I just visited cctchess.com and noticed that the schedule now calls for all 13
rounds to be played in one day. Now I understand why you want to start at 6am.

When we were discussing this event on CCC a few weeks ago, I thought the plan
was to play the event over 2 days. When did this change, and why?

5-6 hrs/day over 2 days is MUCH better than a one-day, 10-12 hour marathon. As
much as I'd like to play in this event, I'll probably skip it if I have to wake
up at 2:30am to play.
