I had that very same problem with my original Chess Champion. The current one I have is the gift of a dear friend and have no problem at all. The old one had that problem and the reason is that the electric cord, if being wrapped many times in a tigh fashion, break internally. The remedy if to find where the wires got broken, cut there the cord and then make a good new connection. To find the place just look where the cord is bent by extreme use and peel a litle bit the plastic surface to see. Fernando, electrician
