  I also had bad experience with Fidelity. Not sure why they wound the company
 up, but the Spraklens' marriage was also dissolved.
   I bought a Novag Expert, the original big wooden board one. Although i rarely
play against it nowadays, it's plenty strong enough for me and has never given
trouble.
  Just to have a brag, the other month at another flea market, at the end of the
morning a lady was packing up and I noticed a chess comp on her table. It's a
 Tandy 1850. That's the implied playing strength, but the real playing strength
is more like 1600. Anyway, $1 was her asking price! Of course, I snapped it up,
and it looks like it's hardly been used. It dates back to the late '80s, I'd
say,
running at a 'fast' 12mHz. I think it's actually a SciSys machine, made in China
under licence. It's the kind of chess comp that is small enough to take on a
plane trip with you to while away a few hours
