You could try and do a diff, md5sum or CRC check against the binaries to see if
they're different.

As for releasing a new version w/o any changes, didn't that happen with
Chessmaster/TheKing? I might be wrong, but I read once, that 2 or 3 of the
chessmaster versions had the same engine. The difference was in the GUI. So
another question is, would you buy the same engine over and over again to get
the newer GUI?
