You could try and do a diff, md5sum or CRC check against the binaries to see if they're different. As for releasing a new version w/o any changes, didn't that happen with Chessmaster/TheKing? I might be wrong, but I read once, that 2 or 3 of the chessmaster versions had the same engine. The difference was in the GUI.
