Don't know if tea helps :)

I converted a engine tournament file from chb to pgn, and this shows the
Eventdate to be the tournament-start-date, while the games have their individual
dates (of course).

So maybe the question is how a game in September on Playchess is related to an
event that started in February ?! Now, surely it's something that can be changed
manually in a lot of ways, like when standasizing it in a database.
