Those programs have a CD check to ensure that you have the right to use them.
As for simultaneous usage, you should check your license agreement.

I guess they supply a program that reads machine specific data like the MAC
address (which is a bad choice because even the same machine will stop working
if you change your net card) or some other thing like that.

At any rate, there are things that I don't like about that license scheme. I
might prefer a CD check, which is annoying but at least I can move it from one
machine to another. When I move my Lokasoft programs, I have to get help from
technical support, but when I move CD based programs, I just Uninstall the old
version and install it on another system. Of course, I do recognize that
because stealing is rampant today, authors have to do something to protect
themselves. And all license schemes have some downside. One example of
problems with CD checks is that I sometimes want to run a contest with lots of
programs and I do not know if some of them are going to ask for the CD or not,
so I have to sit around and babysit to find out.

If someone thinks of a perfect license scheme, that would be nice. Until then,
we will have to make do, I guess.
