The pIII contains some new MMX type instructions, but is otherwise almost identical to the pII. in other words, a pIII 450 would probably score very very close to a pII in nps on a chess engine. > >The question is what is the speed for chess programs. > >where can I find information about the ratio of speed between PII450, P200MMX >and 600MHz Alpha-21164a. We checked this on crafty 14.10, which is a while ago, but we had a good number of processors in the mix, including the 500MHz and 666MHz alpha 21164a, and of course, a bunch of intel and a few mac ones in there too. The pII 450 was not even released at the time, i think the fastest pII on the list is 300. Matt
