In this case it is a big surprise to read that Ruffian lost against the R40
inspite of superior hardware of Ruffian.

IMO Ruffian1.0.1 should be even slightly better on equal hardware than
chessmaster6000 that was released clearly after feb 1995 based on the ssdf
results(ssdf did not test them on equal hardware but this is my conclusion based
on some comparisons).

I think that the main question is if fruit is using better hardware.
I am not sure about it and it is possible that Mhz is misleading because the
hardware of the Tasc R40 was designed specifically for chess when the hardware
that fruit use was not designed specifically for chess.
