Subject: Fruit 2.2 : own book works great with Arena; how use own book in CB GUI?

I have already read the threads on this issue here and they are not helpful. As
the subject line states, with Arena, no issues at all. Nice to have an
alternative to CB yet again!

I would like to try out some Fruit 2.2 games on playchess.com though and so I
need the CB proprietary GUI for that. I have gone through the "create UCI"
process with no errors. I can load Fruit 2.2 as an engine just fine.

As an aside, I would like to find a chess server that is a free alternative to
playchess.com that others can use for engine-engine games (amongst others) that
does not require the CB GUI. I prefer a system where computer accounts are
created freely without hassles (unlike FICS or ICC). Anyone know of such a
place?

I click on the "Openings Book" tab in the GUI and closed the book in use so that
pane now just says "Load Book". I selected "Change Main Engine" and then clicked
on the "Engine Parameters" button. "Own Book" is checked off on the window of
engine parameters that pops up. In the field "Book File" I have tried "book.bin"
(the default), "C:\Program Files\Fruit\book.bin" (a full path to where the
book.bin file lives" and even C:\book.bin (I copied the book file there in the
hopes it would find it).

While there is some small evidence that a book might be in use, it's not right:

1. e4 e5 (immediate response indicating some sort of book I suppose)
2. Nf3 (Fruit is now out of book).

or this

1. e4 c5 (immediate response)
2. Nf3 (Fruit is now out of book).

Anyone have better luck with the CB GUI and own book use for Fruit 2.2 ?

Thanks,

Roy
