Subject: Help with new computer decision

I'm looking for a new computer.  BB has a HP a1250N bundle for sale at $980.  It
is an AMD 64x2 3800+.  Comes with 1G ram,250G HD,15" Flat panel LCD,Double layer
multiformat LightScribe DVDRW drive, ATI RADEON 200 graphics, and Windows XP
Media Center Edition 2005 Software.  Is this a good buy?  I mainly run chess
programs and occasionally search the internet for different things.  Thats about
all I do with my computers.  I currently have 2 XP2400+ machines and one has
died.  Is this a good upgrade?  Do I need a new OS to run 64 bit programs?  I
tried Chess Thinkers and got no help.  Any info/help appreciated.
