Go up one level in this thread

Im using Scid and Linux. I have created my own large database with ~650 000 at
least master level games in Scid. I open my played games in FICS and then lock
large database tree. Now i can compare my opening moves to moves in large
database, and decide where i can improve my opening. If im out of opening tree i
switch on analysis engine, this way i can find out how i can improve middlegame
and endgame, find tactical mistakes etc. As analysis engine im using at the
moment Fruit 2.1, in old times i used Crafty. This way i have reached over 2000
(recently 2027, hrank ~120) blitz rating in FICS, i have beaten many times fide
masters there who have over 2300 FIDE elo rating. Me does not have any elo
rating, and never had, i dont play in tournaments.

Another thing what has helped my game for sure is analysing GM games with GM
comments. Just analysing plain game without comments is too boring for me,
reading GM comments and lines and comparing them to engine lines is more fun and
i think more effective in terms of improving game. Unfortunately its hard to get
for free good GM games with good comments. In you search from google for example
"annotated pgn", you can find many, but most of them are garbage. Im not
interested about only annotated games without comments, or games played buy
or/and commented by weak players. But i dont want to buy such stuff neither, i
want for free. Anyway, i have collected ~300 well commented GM games, from time
to time such stuff appears in internet. I keep those games in Scid format, but
can easily export to PGN. If anybody wants to exchange such data im very
interested, mail me to kunnar.klauks@gmail.com or send message in FICS to hober.
