It was a bit deep for the 486 running at 50mhz, so I think the point might have been that it was tough for even the best programs to beat humans back then. I don't have the article in front of me, but I think Donninger used the position also to show how Nimzo performed with and without null move. As I recall, the time to solve it (ply 9) was very high (> 10 minutes). I think that's right, anyway. Will
