MacChess 5.0.1 doesn't downgrade Rxe8's eval until 14-ply. Many hours. MacChess
does full tree searches with lots of extensions into the future. I decided to
let it run the full 14-ply search to see what move it would choose at that level
[30 billion nodes, maximum depth: 65]. It picked Rd1 with an eval of +15 [Rd1
Bb4, Qe3 Qe7, Qxe7 Bxe7, Bd3 Bd8, Rb1 Bc7, b6 Be5, Be3 Nd6]. This really is only
marginally better than Rxe8's eval of +8. Several other moves scored numbers in
between.
