Below should be a diagram and position fen from Svidler-Topalov, FIDE Ch currently underway. L. Kavalek in his column mentions Shredder suggesting the continuation of 15...Nf3+!: "A piercing combination that is sufficient for a draw. Topalov picked it up from his second, Ivan Cheripanov. It was also suggested by the computer program Shredder." Curious, I inserted the position into my older computer to see at what depth Shredder 9 would pick up on this. This particular computer is a Dell 866 MHz cpu with 512 Megs of RAM and WinXP SP 2. Fritz 8 GUI. Shredder 9 came up with the continuation 15...Nf3+! at 13 ply. [D] r3k2r/1p3pb1/p1npp2p/q3nPp1/8/2P1N1BP/PP3PP1/R2QKB1R b - - 0 15 Additionally, Fritz 8 settled on 15...Nf3+! after 11 ply. Toga II v. 1.0 after 12 ply. Junior 9 took 14 ply, Gambit Tiger 2.0 10 ply, and Hiarcs 9 9 ply. Interestingly, to me, CM9k Slayer took 7 ply, discarded it, came back to it after 9 play and settled there. CMX Dayffd 4.3 took 10 ply. I've not had any other engines take a look at it. Out of curiosity, and for anyone that would care to give it a quick look, are these ply depths similar to what others obtain to find 15...Nf3+? (FWIW, CMX Dayffd 4.3 is not yet publicized, and I'm not sure it is quite strong enough.)
