this is something I thought about myself too. I noticed the way some major progs do it are just not convincing ... for example fritz and junior with default settings will never play 1. e4 again after they lost their first game with it :) at the moment on my comp junior has to play a boring nf3, pc4-line against everyone because of its bad results against fritz with other openings. I think most book_learning I have seen yet is still very sub-optimal. pete
