Other Results are starting to trickle in for the Resurrection in Germany they are reporting the Res-Fruit 05 leading against the Tasc R30 v2.5 in the UK another Res owner was reporting a lead in a match for the Res-Fruit 05 over another Tasc but the match seems to have been prematurely aborted the Res has four engines so for a change of pace i played a game pitting the Res-Deep Sjeng 1.8 against the Saitek Sparc module as is well known, the Sparc program was the last and strongest program written by the now happily divorced husband and wife Spracklen programming team .. the Sparc was released in 1992 and ran on a 32 bit Risc Processor at 20 Mhz with 1 MB Dram for the Hash Tables a very rare upgrade was offered by Saitek to increase the Dram to 4MB the Sparc 1MB was rated 2225 Elo there is no known rating for the Sparc 4MB but after some discussion with knowledgeable collectors it appears the extra 3 Dram would increase the rating to perhaps 2275 i tried a longer then usual(for me) time control of Game/90min instead of Game/30min to enable the extra Dram to come into play Since the Sparc has to be considered the heavy underdog i gave it the white pieces in the game, the Sparc was out of book by move 10 and the Res did not Castle in the middle game the Sparc typically achieved ply counts of 7-8 with the Res clocking in at 8-9 in the endgame the Sparc reached 9 ply and the Res 11 as it turned out , the game simplified into a Rook and Pawn endgame which should have enabled the Sparc to make full use of its extra Ram GAME DRAWN [Date "2005.10.14"] [White "Saitek Sparc 4MB [Black "RES-Deep Sjeng 1.8"] [TimeControl "GAME 90"MIN] [Result "1/2-1/2"] 1.e4 c5 2.c3 d5 3.exd5 Qxd5 4.d4 Nf6 5.Nf3 Bg4 6.Be2 e6 7.h3 Bh5 8.O-O Nc6 9.Be3 cxd4 10.cxd4 Bb4 11.Nc3 Qd7 12.Rc1 Rc8 13.Ne5 Bxe2 14.Nxd7 Bxd1 15.Nxf6+ gxf6 16.Rfxd1 Bxc3 17.Rxc3 Ne7 18.Rc5 Rd8 19.Rc7 Rd7 20.Rdc1 Rg8 21.R7c5 Nc6 22.R1c4 Ke7 23.Rh5 Rh8 24.g4 a6 25.Kf1 Rd6 26.a4 Rd7 27.b4 Nb8 28.b5 Rdd8 29.Bf4 [D] 1n1r3r/1p2kp1p/p3pp2/1P5R/P1RP1BP1/7P/5P2/5K2 b - - 0 29 here the RES has a totally defensive position with all of its pieces on the back rank while the Sparc has all of its pieces actively posted ..29.Rd7 30.Rh6 axb5 31.axb5 Rd5 32.Bxb8 Rxb8 33.Rc7+ Rd7 34.Rxd7+ Kxd7 [D] 1r6/1p1k1p1p/4pp1R/1P6/3P2P1/7P/5P2/5K2 w - - 0 35 35.Rxf6 i think the Sparc had a winning endgame here but blows it with the wrong capture the Sparc thought for over 3 minutes wanting to play Rxh7 but then switches and takes the F pawn i cant help thinking that if it captured the H pawn creating a passed H pawn and sticking the Res with the doubled F pawns that the game would have ended as a win for Sparky ..35.
