I was curious to see if there would be any noticeable difference between the Sparc 4MB and the Sparc 1MB in a game against the Res-Deep Sjeng 1.8 so i matched them up same time control as the last game and i gave the White pieces to the Sparc 1MB in this game its the Sparc again that leaves book first at move 10 and both computers Castle again the game simplified quickly into an early endgame so perhaps the lack of the extra 3MB DRAM could be felt? GAME DRAWN [Date "2005.10.15"] [White "Saitek Sparc 1MB [Black "RES-Deep Sjeng 1.8"] [TimeControl "GAME 60"MIN] [Result "1/2-1/2"] 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Nf6 3.Nf3 Nc6 4.d3 Bc5 5.Nc3 d6 6.Be3 Bxe3 7.fxe3 Na5 8.Bb3 O-O 9.O-O Bd7 10.d4 Qe7 11.dxe5 dxe5 12.Nd5 Nxd5 13.Qxd5 Nxb3 14.axb3 Bc6 15.Qxe5 Qxe5 16.Nxe5 Bxe4 17.Rf2 f6 18.Nd7 Rfe8 19.Rd2 Kf7 20.Kf2 Rad8 21.Rad1 Ke7 22.Nc5 Rxd2+ 23.Rxd2 Bc6 24.Rd4 Kf7 25.c4 Re5 26.Nd3 Rf5+ 27.Ke2 [D] 8/ppp2kpp/2b2p2/5r2/2PR4/1P1NP3/1P2K1PP/8 b - - 0 27 in this position RES didnt like the capture of the G pawn with its bishop which would allow the White Rook to penetrate to the 7th rank with Check so instead it sends its Rook to a journey clear across the board to land on A2 and basically put it out of play for the balance of the game the wayward rook never moves again in the game i think a human player might take the pawn and have the rook and bishop aiming menacingly at the White King and then perhaps trying a Kingside pawn storm to weave a mating net 27.. Ra5 28.e4 Ra2 [D] 8/ppp2kpp/2b2p2/8/2PRP3/1P1N4/rP2K1PP/8 w - - 0 29 and here the Rook comes to rest for the games duration 29.e5 f5 30.Rd8 g5 31.g3 h5 32.Rc8 Be4 33.Rxc7+ Ke6 34.Nc5+ Kxe5 35.Nxe4 Kxe4 36.Re7+ Kd4 37.Rd7+ Ke4 38.Re7+ Kd4 39.Rd7+ Ke4 40.Re7+ 1/2-1/2 FINAL POSITION [D] 8/pp2R3/8/5ppp/2P1k3/1P4P1/rP2K2P/8 b - - 0 40 while i guess its impossible to determine anything about the Sparc's hash tables from these two games ,one fact does cry out for attention, namely , two games were drawn by the 13 year old Spracklen program against Deep Sjeng 1.8 a startling result Hmmmm Regards Steve
