Subject: Fruit 2.2 new settings - some interesting results !

I have been doing some testing with the new settings discussed over the past few
days. I have discarded the King Safety adjustment (to 104) as I didn't like some
of the passive King moves that seemed to be made when not necessary. Instead I
have tested just the History Threshold set to 50(down from default of 70)vs
default Fruit 2.2.

I know it's not a comprehensive test, but last night I have played 25 games on
my own PC (Intel Celeron 2GHz with 512 Mb RAM) with Fruit 2.2 (default) versus
Fruit 2.2 (History Threshold reduced to 50). All games used Fruit own book
(book.bin) and were 5 minute blitz games. Hash size set to 64 Mb - ponder off.
Therefore all factors were equal other than History Threshold.

Results were:

Fruit 2.2 (default) - 9½/25
Fruit 2.2 (history threshold 50) - 15½/25

This indicates to me that for this time control and on my kind of hardware,
reducing the History Threshold from 70 to 50 is stronger. I have also played
several games on CB server (I know this is less clear due to different hardware
etc) but I've aso been winning more games with the new setting.

Hope this is of some interest - looking forward to other's test results !

Mark
