If the "engine begins to operate quicker", shouldn't this be the same as better
performance?

The difference between 'Low' and 'Excellent' (Maximum in the helptext) is
depended on your other background work on your PC. Here the difference in
analysemode is 0.0, but maybe the communication with the ICS take some activity
so setting it to 'Low' should give best performance.

Last time I checked this, it only adjusted the builtin engine (Tiger) and not
any UCI/Winboard engines.
