I'm running a Blitz tournament at Game/10 minutes. I'm using auto232 and a
Pentuim 333 vs an AMD K6-2/350. I have to admit I've done a little
experimenting but I don't think I have affected the overall scores drastically.
I did this with the idea of determining the strength of Crafty and Comet B00. I
compared them to Fritz 5.32 , Junior 5.0 and Nimzo 99a. I'm not finished but I
think I have enough games to share the results with some people who have shown
an interest. The "Fritz rating" is created by the Fritz GUI. The adjusted
rating is just a guess as to what the "Gauge" figure should be. I just "gauged"
the ratings to make Fritz equal to the Jan 99 SSDF list(+128). The SSDF of
course is not a Blitz rating. You can "Gauge" the ratings anyway you want. The
idea was just to get a feel for the difference in ratings at Blitz.
Program Fritz Games Adjusted
Rating Rating
1. Fritz 5.32 2447 - 133 2575
2. Junior 5.0 2442 - 123 2570
3. Nimzo 99a 2347 - 173 2475
4. Crafty 16.5 2289 - 265 2417
5. Comet B00 2224 - 244 2352
I played most of the games with each program having 16 meg of hash tables except
for Crafty. I gave Crafty 48 meg of hash,8 meg of hasp and 10 meg of cache for
endgame tablebases. Crafty had most 3/4 man tablebases in the beginning and all
3/4 man tablebases towards the end. Other programs had the Fritz 5.32 CD when
available (When Junior played Nimzo I had only 1 endgame CD).
That's because when using auto232 the Fritz GUI will not access the Fritz 5.0 CD
anymore.
I'm now going back to testing at Game/25 or Game/30.
