Subject: Nightmare Position 9

Author: Dieter Buerssner

Date: 14:54:59 10/19/05

I tried the first 9 nightmare positions of Walter Eigenmann. Most could be found
by Yace after rather long time (hours, not minutes). Pos. 9 was not found. I
looked a bit at the given variation. Walter gave the end position of the main
line a =. Is it really =? I let Yace and Shredder play a game from the end
position, 40 moves in 5 hours, ponder on, played on 2 computers, Shredder on P4
2.5 GHz, Yace on Centrino, 1.7 GHz (perhaps 30% faster than the computer of
Shredder). Yace won the game as white. Score was > ~1 from the beginning. Game
started at move 5. Qd3.

Regards,
Dieter
