Am I the only person who is shocked by Fritz's development from being sold on a floppy disk (Fritz 1), to a CD (Fritz 4), to two CDs (Fritz 7) to a DVD (Fritz 9)? How many Fritz users listen to Matthias Deutschmann while they play? How many use the beautifully crafted 3-D chess sets? How many play against the Turk? When I loaded Fritz 9 the first thing I did, as a red-blooded male, was to get closer to Mia and zoom in on her from all possible angles. And I was disappointed, since she isn't as realistic as the Turk. Then I deleted her, along with her Turkish associate. Does Chessbase really think that the immense programming effort they put into these two characters is more important than coding a fully functional UCI adapter? Isn't it time for an anti-bloatware counter-revolution? What's the smallest state-of-the-art chess program? Engine+GUI+Book with no additional trimmings? Preferably Windows. Is there anything where the installation files fit onto one floppy disk? I still have Fritz 3 (Dos) on my computer. After deleting the database it takes up less than 500 KB. Those were the good old days.
