I heard that there was a management change at Aegon, and the new guy didn't want
to sponsor a chess tournament.

I was told by the organizer that more strong titled players wanted to play than
there was space for within the budget (the players received an appearance fee).

I don't know what happened with the Harvard Cup, I never went to that one.
