Amazing that you should mention that.  I just had the same thing happen to me
too last night on my laptop.  It has 1GB RAM and I had set a tournament with
Shredder and Fruit at long time control and at 512mb RAM.  My drive started
churning endlessly.  So I stopped the tournament and restarted it with only
256mb hash with no problems.  I had done ONLY one thing different last night and
that was to update my GUI8 to the latest one.
