I don't know if your still interested in a translation. I sincerely hope I didn't translate it for uhhh, you know....:-)) >start Chess-fraud: mate with Fritz and radio device From a regional club chess player to being a grandmaster: Clemens Allwermann dazzled at the end of 1998 all chess experts. Our newspaper investigated and found out how the retired fellow could have cheated on the elite. (Hartmut Metz) The DA from Stuttgart now is investigating an anonymous charge against Allwermann, who in the Böblinger Tournament told Sergej Kalinitsjew intoxicated by his nr. one ranking he was going to mate him in eight moves. That was reason for experts to take a closer look. After analysis it was discovered that there was a striking coincidence with the suggestions the program Fritz made for each move. The 55 year old explained he had "learned from correpondence chess", like e-mail games or by post. In this form one send his moves via post to his opponent and analyse your game by computer. There was at least a little truth in his words, because he may have been using the four digit code used in correspondence chess to receive his moves (in the Kalinitsjew-game JIMvD). Like playing "sea battle" every square on the chess board had a number, like a1 is 11 and h8 is 88. E2-e4 is in this notation 5254. The transmission of moves could have been done by handheld radio device P93. According to Albert Klein Funktechnik GmbH (Radiotechnics) in Bad Grönenbach the Berkheimer resident (ie Allwermann-JIMvD) has bought two of them. Mostly it is controlled with one or two digits, but in this case the owner Albert Klein was surpised that Allwermann needed a four digit one "for his sattelite equipment". Allwermann had with this device a reach of about 500 meters, which was sufficient, so his accomplice must have been somewhere in the Novotel of Böblingen, where the tourney was held. He read the four digits that were typed by the second device, put them in the computer, and told the answer (of Fritz-JIMvD) through the device (to Allwermann-JIMvD). It seems a fact that Allwermann had a ear receiver device hidden under his long hair. Allwermann -former electrotechnician- firmly rejected the more conventional ear devices as being too large. He needed a device that fitted neatly into his ear, says Klein. Press releases made Klein more sure about his alligations. He is no 98% convinced Allwermann used his patented device for cheating. Clemens Allwermann participated this week in a tournament in Bad Wörishofen. After two defeats in the first three round it was clear there wouldn't be a new surprise. Allwermann played like a regular regional club player - with around the chess board swarms of spectators. Not only the DA but also the German Chess Federation is after Allwermann. All games of SK Memmingen (Chess Club Memmingen - JIMvD) are postponed and Egon Ditt, DSB Chess Federations chairman demanded an exclusion for several years. To him Allwermann is "more than just a deserter (prob. leaving the chess rules - JIMvD) We must set an example to save tournament practice." Electronic doping must be punished like doping in other sports. Klaus-Norbert Münch, the President of the Bavarian Chess Federation, who is in charge of the investigation, pleaded on the 20th of March for the most draconic of measures: expulsion. If that will be the case it will be the day that Allwermann has checkmated himself with his "mate in eight". translation: Jeroen I.M. van Dorp c - 1999 Stuttgarter Nachrichten - please obey copyrights >end
