Half the slowdown or what? > >Joachim You reduce rotational latency by 1/2. Normal seek times don't change, and the data transfer rate also doesn't change... To put this in perspective, average latency for a 7200rpm drive is about 4.16ms, for a 15Krpm drive this drops to 2.0ms for the average rotational latency. This does not include the seek time nor the time to actually read a block of data and decode / decompress it.
