It is proferred as something to consider, nothing more. This is a moderated forum. There is an expectation (implicit, if not explicit) that the moderators will be able to understand what is being discussed. Moderators are assumed to have adequate English ability to (more more than less) understand the English postings that are made. Posting in other languages prevents a moderator that doesn't know that language from assessing whether the post fails to meet the guidelines in the CCC charter. AFAIK, the moderators take shifts (e.g. while all three moderators are always able to moderate, one at a time will be "active" for perhaps two weeks, and they all rotate within the duty cycle.) So even if one moderator knows e.g. German, that moderator might not be visiting every day to check all of the posts in German to see if there are any posts that do not measure up to the CCC guidelines. And perhaps people post in a language that none of the three moderators understand. Now they will need outside help to do their job. Of course, we do need a language that everyone can communicate in. AFAIK, on GambitSoft's site they use German, and here we use English. This isn't "the best possible solution", or "the right way" amongst many wrong ones... but it is more practical than ICD employing a universal translator. I'll take the time to note that I'm not suggesting that those who post in other languages do so to avoid moderation. I'm just pointing out that a side effect is to reduce the ability of the moderators to do their job quickly and easily. Ca va bien? :-) Dave Gomboc
