Don't bother to try. I was wrong, again. It still doesn't work. :-(

The good news is that I have found a way to test this myself:
I suddenly remembered that I had an old, retired PowerMac G4
Cube up in the attic. I have now brought it down to my
living room, erased the hard drive and made a clean OS X 10.4
install, enabling me to use this machine to test my program.

In the middle of my frustration there is also some comfort to
be found in the fact that a CD of Bach's orchestral suites, which
I have been missing since more than a year, turned out to be
in the old Cube's CD ROM drive. :-)
