Not all tablebase implementations are the same! For example Shredder 8's tablebase operations were very hard on the hard drive and Windows op system, causing big slowdowns in the chess engine, but that problem has been largely corrected in Shredder 9. Also will the Fruit implementation mimic Shredder 9 by allowing a manual online query of the 6-man tablebases? As you can see I'm positive about Shredder 9's handling of tablebases, somewhat less so when it comes to finding the best move in semi-closed or closed endgames!? I sometimes resort to using Fritz or other engines to try to confirm my human intuition in such cases, because Shredder just can't always see or find the best line. WP
