See also http://www.chessbox.de/xfen_e.html . X-FEN and Shredder-FEN thechnically will work both. But only X-FEN will keep full compatibility to already existing position encodings in FEN. Simply inspect the traditional starting array. With Shredder it depends on the view you have. Seeing the identical Chess960 SP-518 you will create different FEN strings. Same will be true for all positions derived from one of the 18 Pseudo FRC positions, as long as there are castling possibilities. Thus Shredder FEN is incompatible and ambiguous. Reinhard.
