The advice I've always been given is that you don't need more than 64Mb hash for blitz (and maybe even less), otherwise the engine has to search too big a space each time, costing speed and time. For longer time controls you need bigger hash sizes. If you run the "fritz mark" chessbenchmark in your GUI at different hash sizes, it may be an idea to go with the hash size that gives the best result ? Experts - please correct me if I'm wrong here.
