Humans who aren't serious players may be weak at chess, not IM, GM, & SGM Class,
players that's silly and insulting.

Top programs are tactically more efficient, hence their good results. However,
their are some brilliant tacticians that give computers a very hard time.
Players who haven't an IM title still beat chess programs, when their tactics
are strong enough. When they've played game after game with top programs the
scale tips!

Hydra is the only computer that has done exceptionally well against humans
outside of corr. and I think there are SGM players that could draw Hydra in a
match, even win if well prepared.

You must take into account no SGM can study for a single game against Hydra, or
have access to this beast to practice. Adams really played badly against it and
hasn't been in top form either lately. Look at the WCC..ugh.
Any top program can get wins off the SGM class, but it has been demonstrated
that a well prepared GM barring stupid mistakes is the better player, IE,
Kramnik and Kasparov.

Adams wasn't prepared to play Hydra, so he looked terrible in his match.
This result is deceiving.

No one can just jump in and play such a strong machine without preparation and
practice.

Terry

P.S. To answer Richard's question, a computer on fast hardware, and 3ghz is very
fast, is tactically more aware than any SGM but the SGM and lesser classes can
adapt and find weaknesses. No program has 100th the knowledge of a IM, let alone
a SGM.
