Sadly but true, an AMD Opteron clocked at the same speed (e.g. Dual Opteron
2.2Ghz vs Dual G5 2.3 Ghz) is almost twice as fast for Chess as the G5.

There are also Quad Dual core opteron systems on the market (total 8 cores) that
would calculate the Quad G5 to dust. If I remember correctly Bob Hyatt used one
for crafty in the last WCCC.

But if you can live with not the absolut best, the Quad G5 is a great system.
And also quite affordable ( 3200$) compared to an Opteron quad dual workstation.

Me want one. :)
