I use two folders for the 3-4-5 man tablebases named tb1 and tb6. tb1 contains 1 GB of the smallest tablebase files. tb6 contains the remaining 6 GB of tablebase files. I haven't found any instance where the tb1 folder affects the operating system significantly, so it is always enabled. I don't have any 6-man tablebases so can't comment about them knowledgably, but expect they are impractical on a lot of PC systems.
