Well, not many of the testers do have the R40, I think. The weak opposition had the (arithmetic) average strength of 2301 active elo points with the weakest being Sparc (SSDF Elo 2223). > >so sometimes this "lumping of results" is a mixed blessing > >also on these lists the version 2.5 R30 is lower then the 2.2 R30 which i think >is a bizarre result Yes, a very strange result which shows the difficulty in testing and/or improving a program. One needs loads of games to get a hint about the result. Your R40 match has been a real pleasure to watch. :) But the others at schachcomputer.info have not been lazy either: http://www.schachcomputer.info/html/body_elo_turnier_resurrection_ruffi.html http://www.schachcomputer.info/html/body_elo_aktiv_resurrection_ruffian.html There are about 250 hours of testing in these results. I don't know who is the most active tester there but I suppose that since there are only a handful people doing it, they must have played quite heavily too... > >so maybe i should just wait for these ssdf results(assuming the matches will be >against other dedicated units and not PC Engines which is rediculous) This probably also depends on the availability of dedicated units in Sweden... :) Maybe 30 minute games are a good compromise? I have already switched to that time control (in the rare case that I let them play against each other letting the sarcasm wash over me that I'm too lazy/weak or whatever to play myself...). ;) Best Regards, Martin > >Steve
