I suggest Ubuntu for amd64, which is very easy to install and to configure if you are coming from windows, and has very good documentation, support forums, etc. It also has a live-CD version, which you can try first without installing anything on your hard disk. Or you can choose another distribution at www.distrowatch.com Christos.
