Therefore almost any move (well, besides Re2 >and Re1) are best moves. So this positions doesn't seem to be a good test >position. Did I miss something? I just began to examine the ECE suite... My analysis has Kf3 up 2 pawns for this position. It is strange that you have Re8 as bm and I have Kf3. Perhaps they are about equal. It could well be a draw, because the analysis is only 23 plies deep. In general, test suites are full of bugs. About 20% of the answers are wrong, typically. Here is the EPD position you mention from C.A.P.: 3R4/8/8/8/8/6K1/4p3/4k3 w - -; acd 23; acn 168815481; ce 200; pv Kf3 Kf1 Rh8 e1=N+ Kg4 Kg1 Kf5 Kf1 Rh1+ Ke2 Ke5 Kd1 Kf6 Kd2 Ke6 Nc2 Rh2+ Kc1 Kf7 Kb2 Rh1 Na3 Rh8 Nc4 Rg8; bm Kf3; pm Kf3; id ECE.0003;
