Go up one level in this thread

1. Don't worry. :) You'll be a very good chess player very soon! I do not doubt
it because from your posting I see that you already love the game, and that is
what is required, nothing more.

2. The opening is 90% understanding, 10% momorization. If you study master
games, study a couple of easy beginner's chess books and the like, you will
automatically learn basic principles of the opening, and some typical variants
up to the 5th or 6th move but not much deeper. To learn the basic principles of
the opening like "tempo", I recommend "My System" by Aaron Nimzovitch.

3. Chess is 10% strategy, 10% ideas, 10% positional play but 70% tactics. If you
replay master games or study chess books etc., take a close look at all these
combinations which are explained. This is the main part of chess. If you are
superiour in tactic, you'll be superior up to your top-local level.

Yours truly Paul J. Sacral
