I met with two people of first Botwinnik's programmers team some years ago. Botwinnik's program (Pioneer) was not finished. As I know it never played real chess. There were a few demonstrations how it can find excellent moves in some positions, but no anything more. Last years of his life Botwinnik totally changed programmers team. And new team was unable to make anything. Botwinnik had good resources for his work. So either his ideas were not good (or too complex), either he was unable to organize project developing.
