There is no such risk, IMHO. Any reasonably competent programmer would probably be able to improve Glaurung's strength by 30-50 points or so. Lots of time and patience may be needed to do this, but no exceptional programming skills are necessary. Improving it by 300 points, however, requires the sort of intimate familarity with the code which you will normally never get except by writing the whole program yourself. Theoretically it is of course possible to take Glaurung's source code and improve it by 300 points, but this would actually be a *more* difficult task than writing an entirely new program 300 points stronger than Glaurung.
