When comparing the Fritz 9 interface with the last version I bought (Shredder 7 - the same as Fritz 8 I think), the new features I find most notable are: 1. A complete set of 3d sets (with a 2d control board), rather than just a couple of sets 2. Improvements to the playchess part of things - with a multiboard view when following more than 1 game (very good for GM tournaments!), and some map improvements 3. A new red/brown coloured board for the elegant design! That's it! Fundamentally, not a huge difference - and I wonder if you could access the new playchess features by downloading the latest version from playchess.com!? I don't think much of the Turk animation, as it's unusably slow on my laptop, and the position explainer is like a very early chessmaster beta version. However, for the £20 I paid, I am very happy with what I got (not forgetting the fritz 9 engine) !
