hi Martin >http://www.schachcomputer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=578 >http://www.schachcomputer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=398 >http://www.schachcomputer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=540 >http://www.schachcomputer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=48 >http://www.schachcomputer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=526 >http://www.schachcomputer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=463 even you will admit this is a very small part of the .info site ... > >At the start of the .info page the question which computer is the strongest 8 >bit machine was the most dicussed one as far as I remember. The verdict was that >probably Super Forte C is at least as strong as MM V. yes,the focus of the site is the strength of the computers not the history or lore ..the strength wether 8 bit or 16 or whatever not that there is anything wrong with this..only that to a Collector there is more then just Elo or more then just playing one against the other its fun of course but again only a sub-set to the hobby a "niche" as we say >I agree that playing some of older and weaker guys gives sometimes more pleasure >than the pure strength of the later computers. For example I prefer playing my >Elite A/G v2 over the v9 a little bit more because it looks much more cute and >the colours of the board seem more appealing to me (besides the button caps of >the v9 are gone while the v2 is complete). Sometimes when I have slept well, >have eaten enough, feel in good form and need a stronger opponent I take the v9 >anyway (it's not that bad). But usually the 2000 Elos of the v2 are enough, >particular in blitz, so why bother. :) i enjoy playing against all of my computers even the very old and weak ones as you say its fun to sit down against the CC7 or a Novag Mini and put the computer on one of its highest levels and you have to move instantly i even set up simultaneous exhibitions where i place 4-5 oldies on the table and i go around playing like i am Fischer himself i of course take the White pieces :)) great for the ego >> >This question I hope to be able to answer after Xmas... ;) i am hoping also but ..sigh..dont rely on him too much as i mentioned to you awhile ago..when your first thought Sept.. The 'computers' sold before (in particular CC 1,3,7,10 >and the like) are in my eyes nothing more than just chess toys and not >collectable, similar to some of the the plastic pushers sold by Novag or Saitek >nowadays. > >I don't believe they're playing real chess and so they don't raise the wish in >me to own them. I know that you think different but the mere fact that things >are old or even rare doesn't make them collectable for me. this of course goes to the heart of the issue the fact that the computer WILL play chess (regardless of strength) and nothing else(and of course not be modified and also released for sale)is what i will collect this includes the computers that interest you and more but i think a TRUE collector ..collects all computers and not only the strong ones the correct term is enthusiast (a term you coined if i remember correctly) i agreed with you then even if you think differently about this now >Sorry for the Rant Regards, no i enjoy the discussion and even welcome disagreement there is no problem to disagree..this only makes the hobby more interesting i think i notice this on all of the sites..everyone is either afraid or avoids a little friendly dissagreement in real life people will dissagree and make good points and not be offended why is there this avoidance to have a lively discussion on the other sites?? i say my opinion for all to read and argue and i do not get offended I can Rant as good as the next guy regards Steve
