Hi Steve, no, I think too: it's no problem to have different opinions. Makes things only more colourful. ;) >this of course goes to the heart of the issue >the fact that the computer WILL play chess (regardless of strength) and nothing >else(and of course not be modified and also released for sale)is what i will >collect >this includes the computers that interest you and more > >but i think a TRUE collector ..collects all computers and not only the strong >ones As far as I know you don't collect computers like the Millenium or this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Orion-2000-Chess-Set-Battery-Powered-Play-the-Experts_W0QQitemZ8717572291QQcategoryZ2554QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem To be honest I don't see any great difference to CC 3, except that the latter is old. >the correct term is enthusiast (a term you coined if i remember correctly) >i agreed with you then even if you think differently about this now Actually I don't have no objections against that. That label is as good as any other one. The truth behind is that I don't collect everything that beeps... The reason for that is quite simple: I don't intend to collect 600+ computers, so that I have actually to define what I really find appealing and interesting. In the end I think the strongest computers of their respective times or otherwise special units are what I'm looking for. Besides, they should be able to mate with queen or rook plus king against king - this is the most basic requirement on strength, I think. CC 3 couldn't even win with two rooks against a naked king as far as I know... This is a skill every beginner can learn within a few minutes and you're not a real chess player if you can't do it. >i enjoy playing against all of my computers >even the very old and weak ones as you say >its fun to sit down against the CC7 or a Novag Mini and put the computer on one >of its highest levels and you have to move instantly > >i even set up simultaneous exhibitions where i place 4-5 oldies on the table and >i go around playing like i am Fischer himself >i of course take the White pieces >:)) >great for the ego Yes, I should try that too... with Sensory CC 9, Mephisto III, Renaissance, B&P.... hmm. Nice idea. :) >i am hoping also >but ..sigh..dont rely on him too much >as i mentioned to you awhile ago..when your first thought Sept.. We'll see. ;) Special Computers Regards, Martin
