I can only answer one of your questions:

The purchased & registered version of Fruit 2.2.1 appears to work OK in the
Shredder Classic 9.1 GUI, and in the GUI which came on my Shredder 8 CD (some
call it a "Fritz" or "CB" GUI).

However there was a problem registering it with the Shredder Classic GUI, some
kind of timer problem which caused the screen to disappear quickly, maybe a
problem with their browser "script"(?). So I had to use the CB/Fritz GUI for
that purpose. But after registration it appears to work OK in both GUIs, at
least there are no more nags. It will take awhile to be absolutely certain it is
working perfectly. There was an occasional problem with the 14 day free trial
version in the Shredder Classic GUI ("this is not a uci engine"), so I will be
on the lookout for any such problem in future.

I can speculate about one other of your questions:

My impression is that the Fruit author and promoters are reliable people, so we
can expect them to treat customers properly. The best advertisement is a happy
customer.
