I do not know about sponsors but I was very disappointed from the fact that shirov did not get the right to play against kasparov. I think that it could be more interesting to see shirov losing against kasparov and not to see the boring kramnik that drew almost every game in the match against kasparov. I believe that Kasparov did all he could to make the match happen. >When Shirov refused offers based on a small purse, There was nothing left to do. > > I believe it is in Topalov's best interest to play a match with Kramnik. In the 2 games that he lost against Fritz he did mistakes that you can expect even 1800 players to avoid and it makes me suspect that he sold the match for money that he got from somebody. Of course humans can do mistakes but there are mistakes that even I usually do not do in games(I am better than 1800 but not better than 2100). Losing a piece by a mistake that computer can avoid by one ply search is one mistake that I usually do not do and resigning in a position that you can practically draw by a fortress is another mistake that I do not do. 2 stupid mistakes in 6 game match are enough to make me suspect that something is wrong.
