It started as a few tweaks here and there to fruit 2.1's eval based on my human
vs computer matches in attempt to make it stronger vs humans. After I started
making more changes outside the eval function I added the changes to Toga and
called it Strawberry with the goal of making it a new open source project based
on Fruit/Toga. Before release I sent an email to Fabian to make sure it was ok
to release and he mentioned that Strawberry was the name of Fruit 1.0. With the
name Strawberry already taken I started thinking of other fruits to name it
after on release. After adding king tropism to help with the issue of Fruit
rarely going after my king and playing too much on the queen side for my taste I
decided to just call it Gambit Fruit because of the more aggressive play style.
I plan on continuing with the aggressive theme as it is very affective in
computer vs human chess something I enjoy very much. I do understand that
computer vs computer matches are what makes an engine popular to many computer
chess fans and plan on addressing this area to some extent in future versions as
long as it does not interfere with the aggressive play style. I will continue
to include more and more tuning options with each release as well for people who
wish to test out new setting or help with tuning. I hope many people enjoy
Gambit Fruit, it has been a lot of fun for me so far and I feel good about
peoples responses to it so far. Thanks,

Ryan Benitez
